John Sipsas, Our Founder
John Sipsas is the Principal Attorney and Founder of Sipsas P.C., based in Astoria, New York since 2005. Dr. Sipsas is a Vice Chair for Science and Technology Law at the American Bar Association. He has dedicated his practice to representing small- and medium-sized businesses throughout New York City and surrounding counties (Nassau, Suffolk and Westchester). Dr. Sipsas advises clients on professional and personal legal matters, acting as General Counsel and personal attorney, respectively, to businesses and their owners. He is an expert litigator with significant trial experience and maintains a broader business practice.
Prior to practicing law, Dr. Sipsas worked as a chemist. Most recently, he owned and ran a plastics business in Ronkonkoma, New York. Previously, he worked as Director of Research & Development at Pall Corporation (now Danaher, NYSE: DHR). Earlier in his career, he worked in similar scientific research and product management roles at Polaroid and Mearl. John began his career in the U.S. Naval Research Laboratory.
Dr. Sipsas received a J.D. from New York Law School, an M.B.A. from Worcester Polytechnic Institute, a Ph.D. in Chemistry from New York University and a B.A. in Chemistry, cum laude, from Queens College of the City University of New York. He is also the holder of seven U.S. patents. Dr. Sipsas is a member of the New York State Bar Association, the American Chemical Society, the New York Intellectual Property Law Association, the Customs and International Bar Association and the Manhattan Chapter (Delphi 25) of the American Hellenic Educational Progressive Association (AHEPA). He is admitted to practice law in New York, the Southern and Eastern Districts of New York, and the Court of Appeals for the Second Circuit.
Recent successes include:
- Obtaining a favorable verdict for commercial client, 14-31 28th AVENUE LLC, in prolonged jury trial
- Filing an emergency Order to Show Cause on behalf of commercial real estate client, 33-24 Northern Blvd. LLC, to restrain commercial neighbor from proceeding with construction; case was successfully settled, with all claims from co-defendants against client dismissed
- Settling of a real estate occupancy case involved dispute between a client, Queens Audiology PLLC, and a major hospital, safeguarding clients’ business operations
- Securing a pre-trial dismissal of case against client, Pro-Beauty Concepts, involving allegations of misappropriating business information and trade secrets
- Representation of an ultra-high net worth individual against the City of New York, resulting in a positive outcome for client by preventing the City from selling a tax lien on a commercial property
- Reversal of lower court decision that denied our client its motion to amend its complaint and serve a subpoena upon a bank
- Appealing lower court decision concerning notice of pendency filing upon a commercial property; upon appeal, Appellate Division reversed lower Court decision, dismissed notice of pendency and imposed sanctions on Plaintiff’s counsel
- Secured dismissal of his client, VNG Service Renovation Corp., in a lawsuit by his employee in Workers’ Compensation case, including dismissal of additional cross claims by Defendants, saving client tens of thousands of dollars in litigation fees and liability
- Sustained Mechanics’ Lien on behalf of our client, Rolando Mechanical Corp., against owner
- Obtaining a favorable outcome after a prolonged trial against the NYC Department of Buildings on behalf of a licensed crane operator
- Representing insured corporation on personal injury and labor law claims, defeating Plaintiff’s motion for summary judgment
